About this piece
The frame is steel, and it does the holding: the oak boards sit down inside it so the steel takes the edge of the top, which is the edge that gets knocked. Underneath, the beam that ties the legs together is left long and proud on both sides rather than hidden, because it is the part doing the work. The legs splay out so nothing lines up with where your feet go. Low, heavy for its size, and built to be dragged across a room without racking.
Wipe with a damp cloth. Re-oil the top when it starts looking dry. Rings sand out of oak, which is why it is oiled rather than lacquered.
