About this piece
The top is solid oak, glued up from boards wide enough that the grain runs the length of the table rather than across it. It sits on a base welded from steel box section and finished matt black: the rectangular top on a cross, the round one on a star. Either way the base carries the load on its own, so there is no apron and nothing at the corners to sit around. It comes apart, so the top can be taken off, re-sanded and re-oiled years from now without touching the steel.
Wipe with a damp cloth, never a soaked one. Re-oil once a year, or whenever water stops beading. Marks sand out. That is what a solid top is for.
